Hello divine divas. For some of us, as hard as we try, looking fashionable has not been a walk in the park. Some of us have given up on being fashionable. Some even think it’s a sin to think about fashion, not to mention being fashionable. Some have compromised their faith in the name of fashion. Some have gone into debt just to look fashionable. There are so many definitions of what fashion is, but my favourite definition of fashion is, ‘fashion is who you are’. If you are addressed the way you dress and first impressions last longer, I think it makes perfect sense to dress who you are on the inside, outside. In other words, express the beauty in you and your unique personality through your dressing. That way your dressing introduces you to whoever sees you.

The first place to go when shopping to stock your wardrobe is within you. Self-discovery and knowledge has a huge role to play in your dressing and its outcome. Your activities, likes, hobbies, and nature also come into play. Go for colours that flatter your skin tone and enhance your figure. We don’t always look our best in our favourite colours. So my advice is pick a shade or tone of your favourite colour that flatters you the most. To save cost, go for skirts and blouses, more than dresses. This gives you the freedom to mix and match.

They say everything goes with black, or is it black goes with everything? Well, that may be true, but the new black comes in different skin tone colours; also known as nude colours. So look for nude colours that match your skin colour; in skirts, shoes, hair covers/accessories, bags and other clothing accessories you can get within your budget, of course. Then wear flattering colours in your tops. You need footwear in three basic colours: (i) a metallic colour that matches your skin the most – copper, bronze, silver, gold, etc. (ii) your skin tone colour; a nude colour that matches or flatters your skin the most – beige, shades and tones of brown, coffee, chocolate, etc. (iii) a shade/tone of primary or secondary colour that matches and flatters your skin the most. Make sure you have a pair of cover shoes, preferably in your skin tone colour. I know it’s more comfy to wear slippers and sandals, but you can find stylish and comfy shoes if you are patient enough to find them, at a reasonable price too.

Before you start buying, write down your findings and conclusions. This includes the colours you have decided to use for tops, skirts, clothing accessories, footwear, head covers/accessories, etc., how many you need in each category, and the amount you have earmarked for the purchase.

Pray on this list, yes pray. Ask God to guide and lead you to where you will get what’s on your list that will beautify you and advertise His glory upon your life. God is your original designer and beautifier, so He is your go-to person for what suits you the most. Cultivate the habit of asking God what to wear and how to wear it. You will be amazed at the results and the effect. Learn to trust God with your dressing.

Who knows? Maybe someone will become a true christian through your dressing. Our lives and our dressing should preach the gospel of Christ in an attractive manner, don’t you think? Till we meet again on ‘paper’ and if Jesus tarries in His coming: keep working with God to be the best He has created you to be and stay rapturable.
