Spoken Word

Happy New Year!!!

For a while now, we’ve been publishing an Anthology of Poems every month. The anthologies are compiled by our Spoken Word Ministers. In this New Year edition, we’ve put together an interesting compilation on the title – BOOK.

Now, books play a significant role in our lives. It’s been said, “when you open a book, you open a new world”. Good books inspire, edify, and guide us. We gain knowledge and wisdom when we read such books. In these lines, our Spoken Word Ministers share some deep insights on treasures hidden between pages.

Enjoy!

White pages and blue lines

Is this hairless friend of mine

Where wars of great kings are written

By the hands of a gentle kitten

To be preserved and remind of our history so pretty.

Stanley Nwobi

A gentle four letter word

On the shelf of every great man

Home of the mightiest of sword, “the pen”

Embrace it and it will make you

Neglect it and it will break you… BOOK.

Lawrence Acha

I got hooked to this book

And I look at each page

As if it’s a way to him

Though I lose this book sometimes

I’ll still find it cause it’s my hood.

Bukola Fulani

O! brilliant writings of the tree

Big or small you are in size

Yet defining lives just by reading

The pen they say is mightier than the sword

And you stand true to these words by making or marring life.

Chinaza Okafor

I could never have dreamt that there were such happenings in the world; between the covers of books

Beyond this lovely land I know

What shall I learn and feel and be

What would the world be without books?

Beyond these closed mysterious gates.

Alexandra Aremo

Search me and you will get knowledge

Search me and you will be free

Search me and find wealth

As you flip through those pages, you become unbeatable to the enemies and irresistible to your helpers

Only those who are committed can enjoy me.

Ibiremilekun Ibikunle

Requires the gaze of different oculars

A product of the inventiveness of an intellect

Beaming rays of illumination into hearts

Contains knowledge and mysteries unknown to the earth

Ink, inscribing inspiration and innovation.

Adedeji Rotimi Adekunle (ARA)

I danced with gypsies, dined with kings, fought with dragons

And escaped dungeons

I visited New York, Hawaii, Agrabbah, even Narnia.

I opened a book

And stepped into a new world.

Oluwatobi Afolabi

It’s like traveling around the world

It’s like my eyes are closed in a dream while opened

In between a few pages

Is a place of solitude

A place with so much knowledge, experience and imagination.

Feranmi Ogundipe

When I discovered my gift for writing

Which I had to recover by ascertaining

The glory of God for my life

That was covered by the darkness of the world

Uncovering and making my story to become off the books.

Tantolorun Omotayo

Every slate that has turn

My heart beats at every word pun

Holding tight to all my deed

I wasn’t sure I paid all my seed

Then, I heard my name as a Christ breed, Glory indeed!

Busayo Adegbulugbe

A cook may miss and remix if I’m pageless

Nevertheless, I’m not alive unless there’s a pen

And no ink until there’s a hand-writer

Write it down! Says Habakkuk

So, prophecies may fail, and professors also?

Adeyemi Michael Adetunji

With your foresight and insight, you predicted my precepts

Not like a propaganda of human traditions

But through the apocalypse of heavenly visions

Declaring a future filled with judgement and persecutions

Oh! Book of Revelations…

Grace Elioku
