Spoken Word

Last month, our Spoken Word Ministers put together this collection of beautiful poems to commemorate the Earth Day. Earth Day is an annual event celebrated on April 22. Worldwide, various events are held on this day to demonstrate support for environmental protection. First celebrated in 1970, Earth Day events in many countries are now coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network.

Have a good read!

Mother Earth, out of her I eat and live

Rain pours, she empties her bowel

Man degrades, rain pours

Earth empties nothing, now a reverse of nature

But is this an act of man or an act of God?

Korede Olorunfemi

Spherical is your shape

Yet the ground is plain

Camping living and non-living

You are unique in your own

That is why you are you, Earth!

Ibiremilekun Ibikunle

It all started with a word

A word powerful enough to give life to the ground

The dust was spoken to and it came to life

From the dust human was formed

So we celebrate our heritage…World Earth Day.

The fullness belongs to him

Its entirety and depth

A wonder so beautiful

Even the creator smiles at it

But its wonder doesn’t even compare to the wonder that I am.

The earth radiates your glory

Revolving majestically around the sun

The moon and stars creatively placed to give way for dawn

You are beautifully created by your creator and perfectly perfected by your perfector

And for this comfort I live life.

Marvelous Alonge

In the beginning God created the heavens and earth

He recycled on earth without form and void

The first man came and earth became cursed

But Jesus came and crossed out the curse

He sweetened the earth by making you her salt.

Caleb Nnamani ‘CNC’

The only planet that God planted with people

And with plants with seeds and offspring

Offspring that become countries

But the countries entered into a state of emergency

And God sent His only son to save it.

Tantolorun Omotayo

With eyes open wide

Drops little tears of sorrow and honour

It flowed like a flood gate, maybe it’s fate

But it poured on me and I realize how much pain and gain came with it

By the forces in the sky down to earth where I live.

Busayo Adegbulugbe

Here we go again, another celebration day

I am here to talk about something that was created and not in vain

Something that has beautiful life in it

Hear I am dressed up, about to shout hurray

World Earth Day, happy birthday.
