1960 we gained independence,

In togetherness we ruled,

In love and unity we grew,

Our land where fruits and honey reign,

Arise O compatriots.

We shall of course rise as the giant of Africa we are.

My country at 58,

A place most of its inhabitants hate, forgetting this is home,

Painted black, painted white, still it’s our own,

Tell me a story, one not filled with hysteria,

She starts with God bless me! God bless Nigeria!!

When I think of her, I get goose bumps,

I choose to live for her, no loose ends,

Ours is a story of 1st October 1960,

I call her Peace, I call her Gods own,

When you see the Greenland, you’re reminded that, THIS IS NIGERIA.

Hey, stand aloof atop the roof,

Full of green you’ll see an eagle,

A giant with stallions stationed for peace,

But greed and grief her confluence flows,

Five and eight, even till now, battling restructuring.

See people focus more on weakness and,

They forgot that for so long, they’ve proven that there’s strength in diversity,

An eagle tied down,

The greenness in the land raises the hope,

All still looking rough like there’s no reason for hope,

The strength in your youth never quenches my thirst of hope,

The unity in diversity strengthens the hope,
