It was an interesting moment with Oluwakorede Oluwafemi. She made us understand that “Fashion is a throw it together, all kinds of things”.

Tell us a little about yourself?

My name is Oluwakorede Olorunfemi. I am a fashion designer, fashion creator, content creator, poet, writer, spoken word artist, and a law student, hopefully, one day they’ll allow us to graduate.

When did you start attending the youth church?

I started attending the youth church when I was in year one coupled with the ASUU strike and everything, let’s just say going to 7years now.

What word would you use to describe your fashion style?

My fashion style? I like to be unique. I don’t like to wear what I’ll see someone else wear. I design clothes so I create my own style. I draw then I sew it. My fashion sense is … I’ll describe it as unique, classy and I like to be creative.

Who inspires your fashion sense?

Okay, there’s this fashion designer I don’t know her actual name. She’s a white person, she has a Christian fashion brand. I like her, I follow her page. I like the way she makes us understand that as a Christian, you do not have to dress shabbily, because people believe as a “Jesus person ” you just have to dress In a certain manner… she dresses well and her body is still covered, yet it is classy, that inspires me a lot.

What is your best colour?

To be honest I do not have a best colour. I like brown, black, white…. I love white, probably dark green but I do not have a favourite colour. It’s just, that there are so many nice colours. When I see people that can decide ‘this is my favourite colour”, I’m like how do you do it..how did you just pick one so easily… I don’t have one.

How does your fashion style fit your lifestyle?

My fashion sense is not just for a day, it’s like an everyday kind of thing for me. I’m creative, I create things, not just through fashion, but also through my writings, and probably in my voiceovers. Fashion is a way of me expressing myself. On the day when I’m not feeling myself, you would know. I won’t dress much, I might just wear something just simple, or probably maybe for work. Fashion for me is a way to communicate. I’m communicating my state of mind or a concept at that moment. Fashion for me is an everyday thing it’s something that relates to everyday of my life. The way I’ll dress to work of course would be different from a normal day.

If you could raid any gospel artist wardrobe who would that be?

I don’t know, Mercy Chinwo, I’ll take her berets then, I see her wear nice blazers too, I love blazers. I’ll raid Mercy Chinwo’s blazers and her berets.

Have you ever had any wardrobe malfunction in church?

Of course, it happens to everybody but then the thing about fashion is there are times when I wear an outfit and I feel it does make sense and to someone else, it does not make sense. There’s this fashion Icon I love, he said fashion is a “throw it all up together all kinds of things” it’s just all about putting something together. This year it might not make sense ten years it is a trend. There are times I thought it was a wardrobe malfunction but to someone else, they’ll be like they love it.

When picking an outfit for church is there anything that comes to your mind?

Okay… Yeah… for me. I do not like to wear things that I don’t feel comfortable in. It might not necessarily be because it is too tight or loosely fitted, it can be I do not just like it. Personally, I do not like to expose part of my body when I’m going to church, and every time, I pick out something I feel comfortable in, I like being classy, you know to make a statement in what I’m wearing.

After this interview people would like to know if you’re single or in a relationship

I’m single and I’m not crushing on anybody. I’m focused on myself and my development because I have a lot of dreams and aspirations for myself. My dreams and aspirations are even blowing my own head. I’m single and I’m fine with it.

As the Fashion Icon you’re becoming, what is your advice for everybody in church?

We are in MFM there is something I’ll like to say. I noticed that now it is different in the youth church, sisters dressing; it is a thing, they are beginning to learn how to dress but I will like to advise, even as you are learning how to dress well and how to combine try as much as possible not to lose yourself. Don’t lose your identity, don’t feel like because the world is wearing this let me do it you can go through with the trend fine but make sure you don’t lose yourself. Understand your type of person, I’m not saying you have to be all covered up for you to be a Christian… No ooo… You can dress smartly and be classy, but don’t lose your identity.
