With all the events happening around the world regarding sexuality, many teenagers, youths, and unmarried people question themselves about why they have to stay sexually pure before marriage. Some countries of the world have legalised sexual immoralities. They accept homosexuality, lesbianism, heterosexuality, and other forms of sexual perversions in the country.

However, amidst all these, Christians still have to uphold purity in this world where sexual immorality is legalized and done openly. The question arises, “why do we still have to stay pure if it is accepted by the world?”

Well, as believers, we must be conscious of the Bible verse that says we are in the world, but not of the world. This is our principle as believers, and we must hold onto it to avoid being swayed away by the things of the world.

Knowing fully well that we are not of the world where sexual purity is considered “old-fashioned,” and sexual immoralities are beautified to destroy the lives of many people, how then can we stay sexually pure?

Firstly, we must flee from sexual immoralities. We have the responsibility as believers to flee from it. We must run away from it totally by not engaging in anything that can provoke us to defile our body. Fornication is a sin, and sex is only meant for married people. As believers, we must know that we are guided by the doctrines of the scripture, and we must live by it.

Additionally, the Bible says in Romans 12:1-2, “I beseech you, therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world, but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” This Bible passage instructs us as believers not to conform ourselves to the world but to present ourselves as living sacrifices, holy and acceptable unto God.

In Colossians 3, the Bible says we should set our affection on things above. In the further verses, it talks about our new identity in Christ. The new creature that we are in Christ must detest all forms of sexual immorality and aim at things that are above only.

As Christ’s breeds, we must represent Him by staying sexually pure and telling others why they have to stay away from sexual immorality. Our body is the temple of God, and we must allow God to take over our body fully. Staying sexually pure is not being old-fashioned. Instead, it is being kingdom fashioned.

As believers, we have to constantly remind ourselves of who we are in Christ and why we cannot engage in sexual immorality because we are not of the world. As children of God, we should be wary of sexual immorality.
