… by Daniel Gogo

Oh, you, 21st-century youth,
Listen up, for I’m talking to you.
You open your legs to Akin’s deceit,
Believing his words, skin to skin, so sweet.
For Wale and Wole, you change your appearance,
Thinking pale and folly reflect your clearance.

But why, oh why,
Don’t you see your beauty lies
In what you hold dear, in what you keep?
Value is born from what’s not so cheap.
Now, let’s not forget the guys, it’s time to talk to you,
I won’t leave you out, that simply won’t do.
Just the other day, with Ginika you played,
Feeding her false promises, left and betrayed.
You promised her the night would be right,
But it was all lies, a facade, out of sight.

And she believed you, oh, what a shame,
Exchanging virtues, caught in a lustful game.
Diseases, complications, anguish ensued,
Searching for more, craving a different mood.
A deadened type of lust took its hold,
Unsatisfied, an addiction that left you cold.
“I’m a Christian,” you say, to defend your actions,
But your eyes glued to your phone, seeking distractions.

Waiting for Ginika or Wale to send a text,
To kill your spirit, relax, and deflect.
It’s saddening to see this generation has lost its way,
From virgin to fool, trapped in a display.
You never had the wisdom you claimed to possess,
Holier than thou, but truthfully, it’s all a mess.

And the playboy, the playgirl, in their prime,
With the sauce that attracts, but leaves no time.
Every woman’s man, every man’s woman, they say,
But does the concept of a male virgin even hold sway?
We speak of defending, what a self-righteous lie,
As if it’s only females who care, oh my!

But this is an unjustifiable justice we embrace,
A foolish lie, seeking comfort in the chase.
We know the truth, yet we willingly go astray,
Believing God will understand when we say,
“Azuka’s been with me for a decade, it’s true,
So we’ll surely get married, that’s what we’ll do.”
And so, we surrender to our carnal desires,
Hoping for fulfillment, but all it inspires,
Is a void, an emptiness that cannot be filled,
When the promised wedding never gets fulfilled.
