William J. Seymour was born to the family of Simon and Phyllis Seymour in Centerville, Louisiana on the 2nd of May 1870. He got married to Jennie Evans Moore, a pianist on May 13, 1908.

Seymour was a high-spirited youth and was hungry for the truth of God’s word. At 25, he broke through inferiority complex and dared the impossible – crossed to Indianapolis where whites largely dwelled. On April 14 1906, Seymour was filled with the Holy Ghost and this brought about a dramatic change in his life and ministry – Azusa Street Revival. On September 1906, he began The Apostolic Faith, a publication which grew over 20,000 names in the mailing list. A year later, it doubled. The success of Seymour’s ministry was traceable to his post-baptism experience. His ministry exploded and the Azusa Street Revival began with large membership and manifestation of the Pentecost experience.

On the 28th of September 1922, Seymour died of chest pain and was laid to rest. On the 2nd of July 1936, his wife went home to be with the Lord after a heart failure disease.
