Have you reminisced about those periods when, by all standards, you were qualified for a position, in fact, it should have been a walk-over, but strangely, it posed a challenge, or when you have exhausted all resources at your disposal but you are not getting expected results?

Everyone at a point in time has threaded or will thread this path, then you are left with two options: to retreat or be God-dependent. Psalm 147:10-11 comes to mind “He’s not impressed with horsepower; the size of our muscles means little to him. Those who fear God, get God’s attention; they can depend on his strength”

The Israelites were a typical example of God’s dependents. They’ve always looked up to God for protection, guidance, and provisions throughout their journey to the promised land. God came through for them at the red sea when the chips were down, and by human standard, they stood no chance against the Egyptian elite unit (charioteers). This shows how much God will attend to His dependents’ needs.

Another example was that of David and Goliath. The Army of the Philistines had been a long-standing enemy of the Israelites and possessed superior military strength. Among their Army was Goliath, a giant.

He had never lost a battle and had confidence in his military ability to defeat the Israelites to the point of making a one-on-one battle proposal that if anyone in the Israelite army could defeat him, they (philistines) would become their slaves  (1Samuel 17:9), for forty days no man in Israel could face him in battle.

Still, David, a man who depended on God, could defeat Goliath – 1 Samuel 17:45.

It takes a God-dependent to make the statement Jonathan made in 1Samuel 14:6. “Jonathan said to his armor-bearer, “Come on now, let’s go across to these uncircumcised pagans. Maybe God will work for us. No rule says God can only deliver by using a big army. No one can stop God from saving when he sets his mind to it.”

It is a disaster to downplay our dependence on God. Even though by human calculations, we seem to meet all standards of perfection, one could still fail, but dependence on God will never fail.
