In this month’s edition of Art Drive, we feature Breaking Through by Leye Moses.

Breaking Through is an allegorical depiction of the Nigerian youth, with a lot of goals and ambitions. The composition depicts the escape from an enclosure, with a model wearing an expression that shows determination to leave his confinement. In the midst of all the odds that harass the mindset of people in Nigeria, the work aims to provoke zeal and determination in the heart of the youth. The realistic drawing is rendered to make the viewer believe the subject of the composition is tearing out of the paper.

A large number of Nigerian youth from humble families are provoked to breakthrough from the poverty cycle they find themselves in despite the appalling state of the nation which offers little inspiration. Some youth may choose to do unethical things to earn money in pursuit of happiness, but this piece depicts a patriotic Nigerian youth who, despite all odds, stays true to himself and his dream with the mindset of breaking through someday.

To breakthrough is to persevere

To breakthrough is to be consistent

To breakthrough is to be diligent

To breakthrough is to have a positive mindset
